„Rwanda Youth Clubs for Peace Organization“ ist eine lokale NGO (Nichtregierungsorganisation), die es sich zur Aufgabe gemacht hat, den Genozid (Völkermord) in Ruanda durch das Empowerment einer neuen, verantwortungsbewussten Generation Jugendlicher aufzuarbeiten und für immer zu beenden. Diese Generation ist die erste, die die Folgen des Genozids zu spüren bekommt, aber auch die letzte, die dazu beitragen kann, dass so etwas nie wieder stattfindet – nicht nur in Ruanda, sondern weltweit. Wir konzentrieren uns auf die Vorhersage, Prävention und Verhinderung von Völkermorden und anderen Formen des Massenmordes. Im Fokus steht ein analytisches Verstehen des Völkermord- Prozesses in spezifischen Situationen. Wir wissen, dass das, woran Leute glauben einen großen Einfluss auf ihre Handlungen und Entscheidungen hat. Deswegen konzentrieren wir uns darauf, Jugendliche zu bilden und aufzuklären. Sie sind es, die einen Einfluss auf ihre Gesellschaft haben können, um so nachhaltigen und langanhaltenden Frieden zu schaffen.

Aktivitäten der Organisation:

Trainings:

Wir organisieren Seminare, Workshops, Trainings, Weiterbildungen und Treffen in Schulen, die sich mit dem Genozid, der Prävention, der Friedensbildung, Einheit und Versöhnung beschäftigen. Hier sind alle Schüler_innen und Mitarbeiter_innen versammelt, um über die Geschichte Ruandas und die Ideologie des Genozids zu sprechen und Maßnahmen zu erarbeiten, die es ermöglichen, effektiv zusammenzuarbeiten und den Genozid mit allen Mitteln zu bekämpfen. Die Veranstaltungen finden jedes Schuljahr in nahezu allen weiterführenden Schulen statt. Teilnehmer_innen werden ermutigt, anderen zuzuhören, sich in ihre Lage zu versetzen, Erfahrungen zu teilen und auf ein gemeinsames Ziel hinzuarbeiten.

Jugenddiskussionen:

Wir organisieren Diskussionen und Debatten für Jugendliche, die Schüler_innen und der gesamten Gemeinde helfen, die Wurzeln und Ideologien des Genozids vollends zu verstehen und zu begreifen, wie jede_r Teil der Friedensbildung in der eigenen Gemeinde oder Familie sein kann. Wir konzentrieren uns auf die Jugendlichen, weil junge Mitglieder der Gemeinschaft in Diskussionen über Konflikte oft ignoriert werden, auch wenn sie davon unmittelbar beeinflusst werden.

Gedenkstättenbesuche:

In Zusammenarbeit mit Schulleiter_innen und anderen Institutionen organisieren wir den Besuch von Gedenkstätten in verschiedenen Gegenden. Dies soll den Schüler_innen helfen, die Planung und Durchführung des Genozides zu verstehen und über die Vergangenheit zu reflektieren. Verschiedene Führungspersonen begleiten uns dabei und helfen, ein klares Bild des Genozides und einer schlechten Führung zu zeichnen, die 1994 zum Genozid gegen die Bevölkerungsgruppe der Tutsi führte und dem Millionen Menschen zum Opfer fielen. Mithilfe der Kigali Genozid- Gedenkstätte, die 2005 eröffnete, können verschiedene Schüler_innen und Lehrer_innen aus Rubavu, Ngororero, Rutsiro und Nyabihu lernen, wie Völkermorde in Zukunft verhindert werden können und die Aufmerksamkeit für dieses Thema in den eigenen Familien und Schulen auf das Thema gelenkt werden kann.

Sport und Kultur:

„Football 4 Peace“ Friedensturniere – Um die Jugend zusammenzubringen und Frieden, Einheit und Versöhnung unter ihnen zu schaffen organisieren wir das jährliche „Football 4 Peace“ Turnier, das sich gegen die Ideologie des Genozids stellen soll. Wir wollen all den Jugendlichen gedenken, die während des Genozides getötet wurden. Verschiedene Schulen nehmen an dem Turnier teil. Es findet jedes Jahr im Sommer (Juni – Oktober) statt. Wir glauben daran, dass Sport und Spiele die Kraft haben, Menschen zu vereinen und Konflikte zu verhindern. Spiele sprechen eine Sprache, die jede_r versteht.

Aufgaben der/ des Freiwilligen:

Assistenz bei verschiedenen Verwaltungstätigkeiten
Projektvorschläge entwickeln und Kommunikation mit Förderorganisationen
Planung und Durchführung von Trainings für Jugendliche
Besuch von Schulen, die mit der Organisation kooperieren
Kontakt mit lokalen und internationalen Partnern
Entwicklung eines übergeordneten Aktivitätenplans und eines strategischen 5- Jahres- Plans mithilfe anderer Mitarbeiter_innen

Anforderungen:

Bereitschaft, neue Kontakte zu knüpfen
Bereitschaft, ländliche Gebiete aufzusuchen
Zusammenarbeit mit den Jugendlichen und der Organisation
Abgeschlossene Schulausbildung (Abschluss eines Studiums von Vorteil)
Erfahrungen in der Arbeit mit Jugendorganisationen oder einem ähnlichen Arbeitsfeld
Gute Englischkenntnisse

Description of the organisation

Rwanda Youth Clubs for Peace Organization is a local NGO dedicated to creating the Local institutions and Political will to end Genocide forever through empowering the new generation in sustainable peace, unity and reconciliation. We are the first generation to feel the impact of Genocide and we are the last generation that can do something so that Genocide will never happen again. Not only in Rwanda but also all over the World.

We concentrate on predicting, preventing, stopping and punishing Genocide and other forms of mass murder. It brings an analytical understanding of Genocide process to specific situation. We attempt to prevent Genocide and build institutions and empower youth, so that Genocide can end forever. We know that the impact of what people believe in has a great impact on their lives and decision. Therefore, we are focusing our efforts to educate and transform the youth. Consequently, they can have an impact on their societies to bring sustainable and lasting peace.

Activities of the organisation

Trainings:

Rwanda Youth Clubs for Peace Organization organizes seminars, workshops, trainings, capacity building and meetings in secondary schools focusing on Genocide prevention, Peace building, Unity and Reconciliation. Here, all students and school staffs are gathered together and talk about Rwandan history, Genocide and its Ideology, and take measures of how to work together in fighting against Genocide by using all our means.

These activities happen every school term in almost all secondary schools planned in each year. Participants are encouraged to listen to others, step into their shoes, share their experiences and work towards a common goal.

Youth discussions:

Rwanda Youth Clubs for Peace organization organizes Youth discussions and debates that help students and the entire community to fully understand the root causes of Genocide and its Ideology and how every one can be part in Peace building from our families and communities emphasizing on unity and reconciliation wherever we are. The reason why we focus on youth is that young members of our society were often ignored in discussions around conflict, even though they are deeply affected by it.

Memorial site Visits:

In collaboration with school leaders and other institutions, Rwanda Youth Clubs for Peace Organization (RYCLUPO) brings together students and school staffs to visit memorial sites that are in different districts where it operates its activities. This is to help them understand how Genocide was planned and carried out. Here students take time to reflect on our past and what we can do to prevent what happened in Rwanda so that it will never happen again. Different leaders join us and help them to have clear picture of Genocide and bad leadership that led to Genocide against Tutsi in Rwanda in 1994 where a million of Tutsi were killed. With Kigali Genocide Memorial site, which opened in 2005, different students and teachers from Rubavu, Ngororero, Rutsiro and Nyabihu visited the site where they were also trained on how to prevent Genocide and its ideology in their schools and families.

Football 4 Peace in Peace Tournament

In order to continue to bring Youth together and build peace, unity and reconciliation among them, Rwanda Youth Clubs for Peace Organization organizes an annual ‘Football for Peace’ tournament that aims at preventing genocide ideology. We support peace building, unity and reconciliation in memories of all those youth died during Genocide against Tutsi in Rwanda. Different schools participate. This event takes place every year during a period of 3 months from June to October. On the final day, different leaders are invited and give special messages to all people in attendance of the community. Participants are also told about Rwandan Spirit (NDI UMUNYARWANDA), Civic Education, fighting drugs and conflict resolution. This event is sponsored by school leaders, the ministry of Education (MINEDUC) and other institutions.

We all believe that Games have power to Unite people torn apart by Genocide or any other form of conflict. Games speak a language which every body can understand.

Function and tasks of the volunteers

• Assist the Country Coordinator Operations with various administrative tasks.

• Developing project proposals to submit to funding Organizations and defend them when needed.

• Plan and deliver trainings to the youth on the core themes of the Organization mission.

• Field visits to schools that are in partnership with the Organization.

• Liaise with both local and International partners.

• With the help of country coordinator, the intern will develop the overall plan of activities....

• With the help of the country coordinator, the Intern will spearhead the development of the 5 years strategic plan of the Organization

Requirements of the volunteers

Ready to meet new friends, visit rural area and collaborate with youth and more importantly us.

Having completed secondary school.(if possible University degree would be appreciated.) Experience in the work of Youth Organizations or related domain. Good knowledge of English.
